Yep - this Nutrition Coach gave her 5 year old ice cream for breakfast.
Know why?
Because balance is important...not just for adults, but for healthy kids too.
We went for an early run - I ran a 5k pushing her, and she jog/walked a 1.6 mile lap next to me in 22 minutes!
She was so proud of herself for jogging a lap around the reservoir herself! We got cleaned up and had a little breakfast date to celebrate her accomplishment.
We went to her favorite restaurant and I let her pick what she wanted.
Of course the choice was Oreo Pancakes with ice cream and whipped cream...so I said yes, with the following parameters:
1. We shared them
2. We also had eggs and chicken sausage
3. She had her juice with half water (I would have preferred no juice, but look at that face 😏)
4. No dessert that night
5. She remembered how hard she worked to accomplish her goal on her "run" and that this was a reward for not giving up when she wanted to
She ate about 1/4 of this stack, I ate 1/2 of it, and we left 1/4 of it on the plate.
We killed the eggs and sausage.
And we were so full we didn't eat until dinner.
I never meant to make a teachable moment out of this experience - these are just the rules I set up as I am faced with making decisions for her, and I thought they might be good to share.
Healthy lifestyles are a balancing act.
Always remember to keep the scale from tipping, one way or another!
