Today is International Overdose Awareness Day: the world’s largest annual campaign to end overdoses, remember without stigma those who have died, acknowledge the grief of the family and friends left behind, and educate on overdose prevention.
And today I'm proud to announce I've been voted in as the newest member of the board for the Howell Alliance.
The Howell Alliance collaborates across the community to prevent substance abuse, underage drinking and marijuana use, alcoholism, tobacco/nicotine use, vaping, and other at-risk behaviors.
It promotes physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being, the reduction of substance use, and mental health disorder stigmas through providing awareness, resources, and education to all community populations.
Many people who are addicted to drugs are also diagnosed with other mental disorders, including anxiety and depression. Many people take drugs in an attempt to alleviate symptoms of mental health disorders.
It's time for us to get rid of the stigma behind drug use, mental health services, and asking for help.
I'm so proud to be part of an organization designed to help create healthier lives for members of my local community and look forward to sharing more about the Alliance in the future.
