On March 27, 2022, I got certified as a first responder for Mental Health crises from the National Council for Mental Wellbeing.
Why?
I always talk about how mental health is so important to me. I talk about my own mental health struggles. I know what it's like to have been on the other side of a crisis.
Mental health emergency situations are often mishandled because of a lack of understanding of those around the victim suffering. Even during my class, another person getting certified was laughing at the concept of a panic attack being an emergency situation, as 'technically there's nothing wrong with them'.
For those wondering, yes, I lost my mind and I spoke up about how wrong he was.
I want to be able to help my friends, family, and people I love.
I want to bring more value to my clients, in case they need me.
I want to be able to help people in my community, should I ever be in a situation where I can.
So as we chug along through May, Mental Health Awareness Month, I am continuing to make Mental Health a priority in my life, and taking steps to bring more value to the people around me by better supporting their mental health as well.
