February is National Heart Health month!
I don’t think I need to go into why heart health is so important, BUT, I will share a few interesting statistics that blew my mind.
In the US:
- Heart disease causes 1 out of every 4 deaths.
- Heart disease is also the leading cause of death.
- Women are more likely to die from heart disease. In fact, 26% of women will die within a year of a heart attack compared with 19% of men.
How can you focus on keeping your heart healthy?
💛 Get at least 150 minutes of physical activity in a week. It doesn’t need to be Crossfit…just moderate walking 3 – 4 days a week is plenty to keep your ticker working well.
💛 If you smoke or vape, STOP! Chemicals in smoke cause the blood to thicken and form clots inside veins and arteries.
💛 If you are overweight or obese, losing just 5 – 10% of your body weight can significantly lower your risk of certain health conditions, from high blood pressure to heart disease. (If you weigh 200 pounds, 10 pounds is 5% of your body weight.)
Remember: prevention is the key to success when it comes to serious disease.
